01/11/07
The annual Blaenau Gwent Biodiversity Snap photographic competition was held and again the standard of entries was very high.I am pleased to announce that I received joint first prize in the over-18 category, with a photograph of a Meadow Pipit which was photographed in Brynithel.
Fellow bird enthusiast Mike Warburton of Ebbw Vale, was also awarded the honour with a picture of a Little Ringed Plover taken at Garnlydan Reservior.
The honour of overall winner was given to Mike's daughter Bethan, aged nine, who produced a stunning shot of Porcelain Fungi, taken at Silent Valley Nature Reserve.
The fungi is very rare and only later examination by he County's Ecology team was found to be one of the first records in Blaenau Gwent.
